What is Seedance? Complete Guide to AI Video GenerationEverything you need to know about Seedance 2.0 — the AI video model by ByteDance

PicX StudioUpdated 7 min read

Seedance is ByteDance's family of AI video models. This guide covers what Seedance is, how Seedance 2.0 compares with Seedance 2.0 Fast, Mini and the newer Seedance 2.5, what each one costs on PicX Studio, and how to make your first clip step by step.

What is Seedance?

Seedance is a family of AI video generation models made by ByteDance. You describe a scene in words, or give it a still image or reference clips, and it renders a short video with natural motion, camera movement and, on the current versions, synchronized sound.

Seedance is built for video only. It handles motion, physics and camera moves, and keeps characters and objects consistent from the first frame to the last, which is why it works well for social clips, ads, product shots and short story beats.

On PicX Studio there are four Seedance models: Seedance 2.5 (the newest, clips up to 30 seconds), Seedance 2.0 (the full-quality tier, up to 4K), Seedance 2.0 Fast and Seedance 2.0 Mini. They run in the browser: no install, no GPU.

Who Made Seedance?

Seedance was developed by ByteDance, the technology company behind TikTok, Douyin and Lark, through its Seed AI research team. ByteDance also builds the Seedream image models, which you can use on PicX Studio too.

Seedance is separate from the AI features inside the TikTok app (recommendations, effects, filters). It is a standalone model for generating new video. PicX Studio is one of the platforms where creators can use it, next to video models from Kuaishou, Alibaba, Google, xAI and others.

Seedance 2.0 vs Fast vs Mini vs 2.5: Which Should You Use?

There is no model called "Seedance 2.0 Pro": the full-quality tier is simply named Seedance 2.0. Here is how the four Seedance models on PicX Studio compare. Prices are credits per second of video; sound on or off costs the same.

Seedance 2.0 Mini480p, 720p25 / 504–15 s
  • Seedance 2.5: the newest model. Longest clips (up to 30 seconds), native audio and up to 50 references. Use it when a scene needs more than 15 seconds.
  • Seedance 2.0: the full-quality tier and the only Seedance model that renders in 4K. Use it for final renders, client work and paid campaigns.
  • Seedance 2.0 Fast: quicker and cheaper, at 480p or 720p. Use it for drafts, testing prompts and social clips.
  • Seedance 2.0 Mini: the cheapest Seedance model, from 25 credits per second. Use it for volume and quick ideas.

Recommended workflow: explore the idea on Seedance 2.0 Fast or Mini at 480p, then render the final version on Seedance 2.0 (or Seedance 2.5 when you need a longer clip) once the direction is right.
