Pinterest pin size in 2026
The recommended Pinterest pin size is 1000 × 1500 pixels, a 2:3 vertical ratio. Pinterest accepts PNG and JPEG image pins up to 20 MB. Pins taller than 2:3 aren't rejected, but they can be cut off in the home feed, so the full image only shows when someone opens the pin.
| Pin type | Recommended size | Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Standard pin | 1000 × 1500 px | 2:3 |
| Square pin | 1000 × 1000 px | 1:1 |
| Video pin (vertical) | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 |
| Max image file size | 20 MB |
Why 2:3 beats square and landscape on Pinterest
Pinterest's feed is a grid of fixed-width columns. Every pin gets the same width, so its height decides how much of the screen it takes. A 2:3 pin is 50% taller than a square one and twice as tall as a 3:2 landscape image, which is why Pinterest recommends vertical pins. Going taller than 2:3 doesn't help; the feed cuts it off.
That's also why a pin maker here is mostly a cropping job. Most photos are 3:2 or 4:3 landscape, so you choose the vertical slice that tells the story.
If the subject is wide and can't survive a 2:3 crop, a square 1:1 pin is the better compromise; crop it with the Image Cropper instead. And if you're making several pins for the same blog post, crop different parts of the same photo so each pin looks fresh in the feed while pointing to one link.
Tips for pins that get saved
Pins are browsed fast and on phones. Make the subject obvious in the crop and leave room for a text overlay if you plan to add one.
- Leave the top or bottom third calm if you'll add a headline with Image Text Overlay.
- Use bright, natural light; dark images get lost in the feed.
- Keep a consistent style across a board so your pins are recognizable.
- Add a keyword-rich title and description when you pin; Pinterest search reads them.
- Pin fresh images regularly instead of re-pinning the same one; Pinterest favors new pins.
