LinkedIn banner size in 2026
The LinkedIn banner size for personal profiles is 1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio. LinkedIn accepts JPG, PNG and GIF background photos up to 8 MB. Company pages use a separate cover image with a different, even wider shape, so check the size in your page's admin upload dialog before reusing a profile banner there.
| LinkedIn image | Recommended size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Profile banner (background photo) | 1584 × 396 px | 4:1, JPG/PNG/GIF, max 8 MB |
| Profile photo | 400 × 400 px | Shown as a circle |
| Company page cover | Wider than 4:1 | Check the admin upload dialog |
What shows behind your profile photo on desktop vs mobile
On desktop, your round profile photo sits over the lower left of the banner, covering roughly the left quarter of its bottom half. Your name and headline sit below the banner, so the whole right side is visible and is the best place for anything that matters.
In the LinkedIn mobile app, the banner is shown smaller and trimmed at the sides, and the profile photo still overlaps it at the lower left, taking up a bigger share of the space. A design that fills the full width on desktop often loses its left and right edges on a phone.
- Keep the left third, bottom half, free of anything important.
- Put text or a logo in the center-right, away from the outer edges.
- Check your profile on a phone after uploading; adjust the focus point if the subject is clipped.
What to put on a LinkedIn background photo
A LinkedIn header works like a book jacket: it sets context for your headline without competing with it. Wide, uncluttered images crop best to 4:1, such as a skyline, a desk, a landscape or a texture in your brand colors. This tool crops and resizes; it doesn't add text. If you want a tagline or website on the banner, add it with Image Text Overlay, placing it in the center-right safe area.
Recruiters and clients often look at your profile on a phone first, so check both views after you upload. A banner that echoes your headline (a stage for a speaker, code on a screen for a developer, a product for a founder) does more for your profile than a generic stock photo.
