Create a favicon in 3 easy steps

  1. 1

    Drop your logo

Upload a logo or icon to the favicon generator. Non-square images are cropped to a centered square.

  2. 2

    Check every size

All four sizes are generated at once. Look closely at 16 × 16, the size most tabs show.

  3. 3

    Download the PNGs

Save each size you need, already named favicon-32x32.png and so on, and add them to your site.

The favicon sizes that matter

Four PNG files cover browser tabs, bookmarks, desktop shortcuts and iPhone home screens.

  • Tab and bookmark sizes

16 × 16 and 32 × 32 px for browser tabs, bookmarks and the address bar, on normal and high-density screens.

  • Apple touch icon

A 180 × 180 px icon for when someone adds your site to an iPhone or iPad home screen.

  • Made on your device

Your logo is resized in the browser with high-quality smoothing and never uploaded.

Who needs a favicon

  • 01

    New websites and landing pages

Replace the blank or default framework icon before launch.

  • 02

    Shopify, Webflow and WordPress sites

Most site builders ask for a single square favicon upload. Use the 48 or 180 px file.

  • 03

    Web apps and side projects

Give a dashboard or tool a recognizable tab icon, so it's easy to spot among twenty open tabs.

Which sizes does the favicon generator make?

A favicon is the small icon in a browser tab, a bookmark list and the search results next to your site name. Browsers pick the size that fits their slot, so you provide a few. This favicon generator makes the four that cover nearly every case:

Android and Chrome's "install app" prompts use larger 192 and 512 px icons from a web app manifest. If you're building an installable web app, export those sizes separately with the Image Resizer.

How to add the favicon to your site

Upload the PNG files to your site's root folder and add these lines inside the <head> of every page. Rename the 180 px file to apple-touch-icon.png, the name iOS looks for by default:

Site builders make this easier. In WordPress, go to Appearance → Customize → Site Identity and upload the 180 px PNG as the Site Icon. Shopify, Squarespace, Wix and Webflow each have a favicon field in their site settings. After you publish, open your site in a private window to check the new icon, since browsers cache favicons aggressively.

Tips for a favicon people recognize

At 16 pixels there's no room for a full logo with a tagline. Use your logomark, a single letter or a simple shape, with strong contrast against both light and dark browser tabs. Start from a square image at least 180 px wide so the large icon stays sharp; the generator crops anything else to a centered square.

Google shows favicons in mobile and desktop search results. Its guidelines ask for a square icon and recommend one larger than 48 × 48 px, so make sure the 48 or 180 px file is linked and crawlable. Changes can take a while to appear in search, so don't worry if the old icon lingers for a few days.

Favicon Generator questions

What sizes are generated?

Four square PNGs: 16 × 16, 32 × 32, 48 × 48 and 180 × 180 px. Together they cover browser tabs, bookmarks, desktop shortcuts and the Apple touch icon.

What formats are included?

All sizes are PNG, which every current browser accepts as a favicon. The 180 × 180 px PNG doubles as your Apple touch icon. An .ico file isn't generated.

Can I use this for my website?

Yes! The generated icons are ready to use in your website's HTML head section.

Is this free?

Yes, it's free to use, with no watermarks. Downloading your result needs a free account — no card needed.

Do I still need a favicon.ico file?

Not for modern browsers, which use the PNG files you link in your HTML. Some older tools and bots still request /favicon.ico at the root, so if you need one, convert the 32 or 48 px PNG with an ICO converter.

What image should I start with?

A square PNG of your logo or logomark, at least 180 × 180 px, ideally on a transparent background. Rectangular images are cropped to the center.

Is my logo uploaded?

No. The favicons are generated in your browser and your image stays on your device.
