How to get your subject centered in a circle crop
This tool crops the largest circle that fits in the middle of your image. On a square photo that's the whole frame. On a landscape photo it trims equal amounts from the left and right; on a portrait photo, equal amounts from top and bottom.
If your subject isn't in the center, square it up first. Open the image cropper, choose the 1:1 ratio, place the square around the face or logo, and download. Then bring that square here. You get exactly the circle you framed. The image cropper also has its own Circle shape you can drag into place, if you prefer to do it in one step.
Why a round crop should be a PNG
A circle sits inside a square file. The four corners have to be something. In a JPG they become a solid color, usually white or black, which shows as an ugly box on any colored background. PNG supports transparency, so the corners simply disappear.
That's why the circle crop always saves PNG, even if your source was a JPG. If you need a smaller file for the web, convert the PNG to WebP, which also keeps transparency.
Profile picture sizes that use a circle
Most networks store a square image and show it through a circular mask. Upload at least these sizes so the circle stays sharp.
